SA treasurer resigns (02/29/08)

BERNE - Jay Lahr has submitted his resignation as treasurer of South Adams Schools after superintendent Cathy Egolf raised questions about his competence and the accuracy of the school corporation's financial records.

"There is no money missing," Egolf said Thursday, noting that a quick audit had been conducted. "But the books are really messed up."

Lahr had been South Adams treasurer since 2005.

"He was not in his element," Egolf said.

The school corporation has begun advertising for a replacement and at least two experienced school system treasurers have expressed interest in the position.

Because of accrued vacation time, Lahr's last day with South Adams will be March 11.

Mary Ann Rippinger, a former treasurer with Northern Wells Community Schools, has been hired as interim treasurer.[[In-content Ad]]
