SAHS sweeps invite
FRHS/SAHS cross country
SPENCERVILLE, Ohio — The Starfires enjoyed their Saturday trip across the border.
South Adams High School’s cross country teams swept the Bearcat Invitational hosted by Spencerville Saturday led by top-five efforts from Eric Isch, Evan Liecthy and Hannah Moore.
The SAHS boys scored 56 points in a field of 15 teams to finish nine ahead of Shawnee in the Black Division. And the girls team scored 50 points to beat Shawnee by eight.
In the Red Division, Fort Recovery’s girls team placed fourth with 92 points behind Covington (51), Spencerville (53) and Botkins (92) in a field of 14 teams. The Tribe boys were 10th out of 18 with 423 points while Covington won with 68.
Isch was just four seconds away from victory as he finished in 16 minutes, 34.8 seconds to trail only Shawnee’s Garrett Diltz. Liechty added a fourth-place finish in 16:55.
Brody Shane placed 13th in 17:30, Joel Hawbaker was 16th in 17:33 and Simon Sprunger completed the Starfires’ victory in 17:48 for 21st place.
Moore led a group of four Starfires in the top 11 with her third-place effort in 19:59. Sawyer Shane and Jenna Smith went back-to-back in sixth and seventh with times of 20:47 and 20:48, and Kristen Muselman took 11th in 21:06.
Allison Amstutz was 24th for the Starfires in 22:04.
Freshman Elle Sutter paced Fort Recovery’s girls team with an eighth-place finish in 21:03, and Abby May was 18th with a time of 21:33. Jessica Vogel finished 21st in 21:41 followed by Samantha Tobe (24th - 21:45) and Nicole Heitkamp (34th - 22:39).
Ryan Heitkamp took 17th for the Tribe boys team in 17:51. Caleb Heitkamp finished in 19:04 for 45th place ahead of Derek Sutter (51st - 19:07), Calvin Kaiser (63rd - 19:27) and Nathan Fullenkamp (72nd - 19:45).
Middle school
Fort Recovery’s girls placed fifth in a field of 19 teams, and South Adams finished eighth. The Starfire boys were 14th out of 24 teams, and the Tribe finished 22nd.
Janel Heitkamp led the effort for the FRMS girls with a 29th-place finish in 14:13. Caitlyn Huelskamp was 34th in 14:02 followed by Katie Braun (37th - 14:22), Monica Fullenkamp (38th - 14:23) and Paige McCain (52nd - 14:43).
South Adams’ top two runners finished back-to-back with Hannah Coates 26th in 14:06 and Kara Seffernick 27th in 14:08. Katelin Hawbaker placed 45th in 14:33 ahead of Aleesha Goodwin (63rd - 14:54) and Sydne Zuber (96th - 16:09).
Ryan Ford led the Starfire boys in 15th place with a time of 12:11. Kody Coates was 56h in 13:00 followed by teammates Cole Litwiller (76th - 13:34), Jared Grabau (153rd - 15:15) and Paul Neuenschwander (163rd - 15:32).
Anthony Jutte’s 66th-place finish in 13:14 led the Fort Recovery boys. Gabe Muhlenkamp was 71st in 13:29 ahead of Isaac Siegrist (124th - 14:34), Eli Koester (172nd - 15:50) and Mitch Kaiser (183rd - 16:19).[[In-content Ad]]
