SAHS cross country
BERNE - Three Starfire girls finished in the top 10 Saturday to lead their team to victory as hosts of the South Adams Invitational.
The SAHS girls scored 73 points to easily outdistance Southern Wells (129) in the 16-team field. The Starfire boys were third with 112 behind Northfield (87) and Rossville (103).
Freshman Kristen Muselman set the pace for the Starfire girls with a sixth-place finish in 20 minutes, 30.99 seconds. Sophomore Hannah Moore was seventh in 20:47, and Sawyer Shane completed the top-10 group in ninth at 20:57.
Jenna Smith took 24th place with a time of 22:33, and Adrianna Teeter finished 35th at 23:07.
Evan Liecthy had the top overall finish for South Adams in fourth place at 16:47 in the boys race. Joe Hawbaker was 19th in 17:51 followed by Sam Heckard (24th - 17:58), Andrew Steffen (30th - 18:16) and Brett Affolder (44th - 18:37).
Middle school
Brody Shane cruised to victory in the boys race as South Adams placed fourth out of 11 teams. The Starfire girls were eighth out of 10.
Shane dominated the 103-runner field as the only runner to break the 11-minute mark.
He finished in 10:28.47 to take first by nearly 37 seconds.
Ryan Ford followed in 16th for the Starfires in 11:48 ahead of Daniel Velasco (25th - 12:19), Cole Litwiller (36th - 12:24) and Chance Sprunger (45th - 12:53).
Allison Amstutz paced the girls team in 18th a 13:19. Erika Miller ran in 43rd with a time of 14:21 along with Katelin Hawbaker (44th - 14:21), Saedie Hawbaker (55th - 14:43) and Aleesha Goodwin (56th - 14:44).[[In-content Ad]]
