Schemenaur moving to East Elem. (6/28/05)

The new principal at East Elementary School was named Monday, leaving a vacancy at West Jay Middle School.

Andy Schemenaur was appointed as the new principal at East Elementary filling the vacancy left by the retirement of Larry Paxson. Schemenaur was most recently WJMS principal.

Jay Schools superintendent Barbara Downing said Monday that corporation officials will begin looking for a WJMS principal and hope to begin interviewing applicants on July 19.

Jay School Board members also approved numerous personnel items on Monday night.

Board members approved recommendations to hire Erica Kelly as a math teacher at Jay County High School, Shannon Sweeney as a theater arts teacher at JCHS and Kelly Hemmelgarn as a lead nurse for the Jay School Corporation.

The board also accepted the termination of Stacy Newton, an instructional assistant at JCHS.

Resignations from WJMS instructional assistant Karla Munday, corporation bus driver Nancy Valentine and Geri Morrical, a lead nurse for the corporation, also were approved.

Board members also accepted extracurricular recommendations to hire Pete Vogler as a color guard instructor at JCHS, Dolphus Stephens as the English department chair at JCHS, Paul Szymczak Jr. as the social studies department chair at JCHS, Shirley French as a special education vocational club sponsor at JCHS, Kay LeMaster as the senior class sponsor at JCHS, Chuck Phillips as the freshman football coach at JCHS, Cheree McCallister as the cheer coach at WJMS, Irene Taylor as the honor society co-sponsor at WJMS, Janice Miller as the intramural sponsor at Bloomfield Elementary School, Sharon Davis as the student council sponsor at East Elementary, Jane Prescott as the yearbook sponsor at East Elementary and Natalie Corcoran as the student council sponsor at Pennville Elementary School.

Also, the extracurricular resignation was accepted from Trent Paxson as the varsity cross country coach at JCHS.

Board members also accepted leave requests from WJMS instructional assistant Julie DiBattiste, WJMS custodian Jerry Davis and JCHS teacher Krista Muhlenkamp.

Board members also approved field trip requests for JCHS advanced graphic arts students to the print expo in Chicago on Sept. 14.

Also approved were bus use requests from Portland High School Alumni Class of 1945 on June 18; Jay Community Center on July 13 to travel to King’s Island in Cincinnati and on Aug. 2 to travel to Brookville to go canoeing; and Jay County Public Library on Aug. 15 to travel to Bloomfield Elementary and around the Portland area.[[In-content Ad]]
