School collects tabs for kids (9/28/04)

Taking Note

The Ronald McDonald House of Indiana is getting help from East Elementary School in Portland to meet its goal of collecting one billion pop tabs.

East Elementary is enrolled in the special “Collect-A-Million Club” school project. They receive an educational activities packet which includes useful materials for teachers to use in conjuntion with the pop tab recycling project. After reaching their goal, they will receive special recognition as an official member of the Ronald McDonald House “Collect-A-Million Club.”

The pop tab recycling project began in 1994 and in its first five years, raised $100,000 by collecting 200 million pop tabs. The money helps support Indiana’s only “home away from home” for families of children undergoing serious medical treatment at Indianapolis area hospitals.
