Schools helping in blood drive effort (01/18/08)
The Hoosier Heartland Chapter of the American Red Cross and the Jay School Corporation are teaming up to help save lives.
All elementary and both middle schools in Jay County are participating in a "Pint-Size Heroes" program to promote the gift of life through blood donation.
Students recently participated in instructive presentations and have been educated on the process and the importance of donating blood.
They are bringing home information to share with parents and guardians.
The students are also being encouraged to volunteer at blood drives and recruit family members to give blood. Regular Red Cross donors may fill out pledge cards and the student will receive recognition as a Pint-Sized Hero.
Pint-Size Hero blood drives are scheduled at West Jay Community Center in Dunkirk on Friday, Feb. 1; Bloomfield Elementary on Tuesday, Feb. 5, and East Jay Middle School on Monday, Feb. 11, all from 1 to 7 p.m.
Potential donors must be at least 17 years old, weight at least 110 pounds, be in good general health and present photo identification.
For more information or to donate blood, call the American Red Cross at 1-800-GIVE-LIFE or visit www.givelife.org.[[In-content Ad]]
