Scoring record is in reach for Rigby
Collegiate Check-up
If Tyler Rigby simply reaches his average, the record will be his.
The 2006 Jay County High School graduate is just seven points away from breaking the Indiana University - East men's basketball team's all-time NAIA scoring record. He and the Red Wolves play at home Saturday at 2 p.m. at Richmond High School's Tiernan Center.
Rigby, who helped lead JCHS to the 2006 Class 3A state championship game and won the Arthur L. Trester Mental Attitude Award, closed in on the record with 21 points Wednesday in a 101-71 loss to IU-Southeast. That gave him 803 points for his career to trail only Joe Ramey's 810-point mark set in 2008.
He shot 7-of-9 from the field, including 3-of-4 from 3-point range, and dished out four assists. He also had two rebounds, one block and one steal.
The junior, who averages 17.3 points per game, also had 24 points Saturday as IU-East fell 94-82 to Union College. He added seven rebounds and an assist.
Joanna Snyder
Fort Recovery - 2009
Delivered the key assist for the Ohio Northern University women's basketball team Dec. 30 in an 80-75 overtime victory over Adrian.
With her team trailing by three Snyder drove into the paint and then kicked the ball out to fellow freshman Morgan Dumbaugh, who nailed a game-tying 3-pointer with two seconds left on the clock. The Polar Bears outscored Adrian 11-6 in overtime to earn the win.
Snyder started and was one of four ONU players in double figures with 14 points. She also grabbed four rebounds and dished out two assists in 34 minutes.
She finished with seven points, four rebounds and a steal Wednesday in a 73-63 win over Wilmington, and had three points, two rebounds, two assists and a block Saturday as the Polar Bears defeated Wittenberg.
Casey Kenney
Jay County - 2009
Helped the University of Indianapolis wrestling team to a fourth-place finish at the 22-team Midwest Classic.
Kenney posted a seventh-place finish in the 133-pound bracket with a 3-2 record.
The freshman won each of his first two matches, defeating Will Sheets of Trine 8-3 and Jan Ulinski of Findlay 10-5. He lost in the 133-pound quarterfinals by a 6-3 decision to Mesa State's Chris Rublcaba, the No. 6 seed.
Kenney dropped a 12-2 decision to T.D. Thurston of University of North Carolina - Pembroke in the consolation bracket, but bounced back to beat fifth-seeded Brandon Kirchner from champion University of Wisconsin - Parkside 12-2 in the seventh-place match.[[In-content Ad]]
