Second quarter pushes Indians past Coldwater (12/11/04)
FRHS boys basketball
FORT RECOVERY — Coldwater probably wishes the second quarter never happened.
In fact, as far as the Cavaliers were concerned, it didn’t happened.
Outscored by Fort Recovery 25-5 in the period, Coldwater found itself deep in a hole it couldn’t begin to get out of.
Led by Travis VanSkyock, who hit 9 of 16 from the field including 3 of 6 from 3-point range to rack up 25 points, the Indians accelerated in the second quarter and never looked back. Sean Kahlig scored 16 for Fort Recovery, hitting 7 of 9 from the field, and Tyler Wueb-ker scored 15.
Coldwater led 22-21 at the end of the first quarter before the wheels came off. But after the Indians’ strong second-stanza performance, it was 46-27 at the half.
The Indians hit 50 percent of their field goals in the first half and 49.1 percent for the game. Meanwhile, the Cavaliers struggled, hitting just 37.5 percent in the first half and falling to 25 percent in the second to finish with 30.8 percent for the game.
Fort Recovery also made good use of the free throw line, hitting 87.5 percent of its free throws in the first half and 68.4 percent for the game.
After the second quarter blitz, things settled down with both teams scoring 8 points in the third quarter and both scoring 15 in the fourth.
