Seeing good in our community

Letters to the Editor

To the editor:
People in this community are very caring. Two weeks ago, the sudden windstorm toppled a huge oak tree onto our home and caused considerable property damage.
The tree covered the west side of our home, destroyed a portion of the roof and caved in the living room ceiling.
Negative comments about people seem to spread rapidly, but we would like to share a few of the experiences we had with your friends and neighbors in this community.
We’d like to tell you about the stranger walking by to check on his relative who stopped to ask if we were O.K., and if we needed supper.
The neighbors who frantically attempted to contact us, loaned materials and snapped photos. The fireman who knocked on the door to make sure we were O.K.
Our police chief, who provided calm advice and contact information to a frantic homeowner.
James Miller of Little JJ’s Tree service and Tim Morris of Conservico, who immediately answered a plea for help from strangers, rearranged schedules and brought their crews to attack the destruction in record-breaking temperatures. And the people who drove by and waved or offered assistance and those who stopped us in the store or at the post office and asked how we were doing.
We want to thank everyone for the concern they had for us and encourage you to take the time to share a smile or a word or two in your own neighborhood.
