Senior leads Tribe spikers (08/27/2008)
FRHS volleyball
UNION CITY, Ohio - Kelsey Wuebker turned in an all-around great match Tuesday to lead the Fort Recovery High School volleyball team to a season-opening 25-20, 25-20, 25-17 win over the host Mississinawa Valley Blackhawks.
Wuebker, a senior, was all over the court for the Indians, leading the team in assists (19), points (10) and blocks (three). She also had six digs.
Senior Kinsey Wenning powered the Tribe's offensive attack, totaling 13 kills. Emily May had a team-best eight digs to go along with eight points, and Nicole Pottkotter finished with six digs and three blocks.
Joanna Snyder had eight points, and Anne Koesters added six kills.
Junior varsity
Sarah Knapke's 14 points and 12 digs led the Indians to a 25-17, 23-25, 25-19 victory over Mississinawa Valley.
Carly Staugler put up 22 assists and was second to Knapke with five digs. Olivia Thien added 11 points and five kills, and Lorraine Shier finished with seven kills.
Freshman
FORT RECOVERY - Kayla Kahlig totaled nine assists and two digs in a 25-23, 25-23 FRHS victory Tuesday over the New Bremen Cardinals.
Olivia Schwieterman added seven assists and two digs, and Abby Back finished with nine points and two digs.
Kylie Kahlig scored eight points.
The Indians also defeated St. John's Monday, 25-16, 25-20, behind 10 points, three kills, two blocks and a dig from Kylie Kahlig. Ericka Lennartz scored six points, and Schwieterman and Kayla Kahlig each had seven assists.
Middle school
ROCKFORD, Ohio - The Tribe's eighth grade team lost 25-19, 25-10 to the Parkway Panthers while the seventh graders suffered a 25-12, 25-15 defeat.
Janelle Schwieterman had four points and three assists for the eighth graders (1-1). Amy Link scored six points, and Chelsea Pottkotter had three kills.
Sierra Pugh scored five points as the seventh grade squad slipped to 0-2. Jackie Fullenkamp and Lexie Schmitz each had one kill.[[In-content Ad]]
