Services set for Fort girl (12/29/06)
Obituary
Natasha Link was described as always having a smile on her face.
The 12-year-old died early Wednesday evening in Miami Valley Hospital in Dayton, Ohio, from injuries sustained hours earlier in a three-vehicle collision north of Greenville, Ohio.
"She just was a very fun young girl. She always had a smile and was just a very pleasant young lady to have in the classroom," Fort Recovery Middle School principal Ted Shuttleworth said this morning.
A seventh grader at Fort Recovery Middle School, she was involved in cheerleading and show choir and band.
"She really loved that sport (cheerleading). She was very active in it," Shuttleworth said, adding that the seventh grade cheerleaders met Thursday to make signs and T-shirts in her memory.
Link also was a mass server at St. Paul Catholic Church, Sharpsburg, Ohio.
Born May 13, 1994 she was the daughter of Thomas and Sharon (Hogan) Link, 2537 Stachler Road, Fort Recovery.
Survivors besides her parents include one sister, Tonya Link, Fort Recovery; grandparents, Aloys and Shirley Link, Fort Recovery, Robert and Shirley Hogan, Coldwater, Ohio; and two nieces.
Visitation will be held from 1 to 7 p.m. Monday and 9 to 9:45 a.m. Tuesday at the Brockman and Boeckman Funeral Home, Fort Recovery.
Arrangements have been made for Fort Recovery Middle School students to go to the visitation together. Students are asked to meet at Fort Recovery Elementary School at 12:30 p.m. Monday. Buses will leave at 1 p.m.
"We will have school staff, clergy and counselors on hand to help with students. For some this could be their first viewing, and it could be very difficult to deal with," Shuttleworth said, adding that school officials also plan to speak with students before the viewing.
"For some of our students it's their first loss of a classmate," Shuttleworth said. "It's a step towards reality, towards adulthood. We try to shelter our kids from these hardships but sometimes we can't."
Letters with information about the visitation were sent to students from Shuttleworth today.

10:30 p.m. at St. Paul Catholic Church, Sharpsburg, Ohio, with the Rev. Thomas Dorn officiating. Burial will be held in the church cemetery.
Memorials may be given to the Natasha Link Memorial Fund in care of the Fort Recovery Community Foundation.
Link's 82 classmates will take part in a balloon release Wednesday afternoon at school.
"Each student will be given a picture of Natasha and they are encouraged to write a note on the back of the picture," which will be attached to their balloon, Shuttleworth said. "The balloons will be released as a final farewell for members of her class."
Link's death comes approximately three months after the death of Fort Recovery Middle School eight grader Damon Klenke, 13. Klenke died Sept. 25 from injuries sustained in an all-terrain vehicle (ATV) accident.
"I have been in education 33 years. This is the first time having two deaths like this. It is a tragic loss for the community and for their families," Shuttleworth said.[[In-content Ad]]
