Several last minute filers for primary (02/23/07)

As the noon deadline to file for the May primary election drew close today, several residents filed in the Jay County Clerk's office to seek their party's nod for city offices.

In Portland, filing for the District 3 council seat was Republican Michael E. Brewster, 312 E. High St.. The seat is currently held by Democrat Jerry W. Leonhard, who has filed to run for re-election.

Republican Donald P. Gillespie, 134 E. Third St., Portland, will make his debut on the political scene when he tries to capture the District 4 council seat. He will be facing Republican Dennis M. Mason Jr.

The seat is currently held by Democrat and council president Judy Aker, who is seeking an at-large seat.

Republican John Clem, 604 S. Western Ave., has withdrawn his name from the District 7 race, but Republican Mike Weesner, 906 S. Bridge St., has added his name to the race for the seat that is also being sought by Republican Kent McClung. The seat is currently held by Dolphus Stephens, who had not filed for re-election as of 11:30 a.m. today.

In Dunkirk, Democrat Raymond Theodore Pettus, 125 Third St., has filed to seek the nomination as mayor. He is joined on the Democrat ticket by Ronald N. Hunt.

Three Redkey residents are seeking a seat on the town council. Filing within the past day were Democrats James Clayton Phillips, 120 1/2 W. High St., Terri D. Taylor, 214 W. High St., and Philip L. Philebaum, 355 S. Meridian St. Three seats are up for election this year.

In Pennville, Rodne Penrod, 355 S. Broadway St., filed to seek the middle district seat on the town council where two of three seats are open for election.
