A contract has been awarded for the next step for a park project in Portland.
Members of a local board voted this morning to hire a Gaston excavating company to run a sewer line into Hudson Family Park.
Portland Board of Works members awarded the contract to RCM Excavating, which submitted a bid of $24,922.02. This was the lowest bid submitted for the project. The highest bid came in at $65,000.
Bruce Hosier, mayor of Portland, said during the meeting that city engineer Gene Amlin and officials with The Schneider Corporation reviewed the nine bids and recommended RCM's bid be selected. Schneider is doing all the engineering work on the park project.
Hosier told board members he would like to see the project started in the next two weeks. The project is expected to take 30 to 45 days to complete and city officials would like to see it done by March 15, Hosier said.
The line will be about 520 feet long and begin along the south side of the Salamonie River, and run south through the park to where the trailhead/ restroom facilities are expected to be located.[[In-content Ad]]
