Shanks, Bloomfield named as Four Star Schools (03/10/07)
Two Jay County elementary schools have been named Four Star Schools by the Indiana Department of Education.
Superintendent of Public Instruction Suellen Reed announced that both Bloomfield Elementary School and General Shanks Elementary School had achieved that distinction.
Four Star Awards are presented to schools that have demonstrated academic excellence during the past year. The receive the Four Star Award a school must place in the upper 25 percent in student attendance rates, mathematics proficiency scores, language arts proficiency scores, and the percentage of students passing both parts of the ISTEP test.
At Bloomfield, 84 percent of students passed both the math and language arts portions of the ISTEP test and student attendance was 97.8 percent.
At General Shanks, 80 percent passed both parts of the ISTEP test and student attendance was 97.03 percent.
"We are proud of these high-performing schools and are pleased to have this opportunity to recognize their achievements," said Dr. Reed in a prepared statement.
Each school will receive an award certificate to frame and display.
Delaware County had four Four Star Schools: Royerton Elementary School, Storer Elementary School, Mitchell Elementary School, and Burris Laboratory School.
Adams County had two Four Star Schools: Adams Central Middle School and Adams Central Elementary School.
Wells County had one Four Star School: Norwell High School.
Randolph, Blackford, and Grant counties had no schools receive the Four Star Award this year.[[In-content Ad]]
