Sharing thoughts on death of brother
Editor's Mailbag
By To the editor:-
I would like to share with you an article I wrote after the sudden tragic loss of my brother, James Sheridan. If, after reading it, just one person is moved enough to reach out and embrace an estranged family member, then publicizing my most private thoughts has served its purpose:
If you have a house, you have a place to live.
If you have a family in the house, you have a home.
If you have love with your family you have a blessing.
****
I know that you’ve heard it
So many times in the past
Life is too short and
You grow old too fast.
****
So many people never make it to
Those glorious golden years.
Torn from our lives they give voice
To our ever-present fears.
****
You’ll never know when it’s your time
Hell, it might just be today
When you lose someone you love
You feel as if things
Will never again be okay.
****
June 25th this year has become without
Question the worst day of my life.
I lost my younger brother at 31.
He left behind two gorgeous children and a wonderful wife.
****
I still can’t believe it. My mind and
Body are in complete shock.
He was so full of life and love, not to
Mention built like a rock.
****
It’s all so hard to absorb, like
Living a bad dream.
The only consolation I have is
Knowing that he’s now part of God’s team.
****
The tears and sadness that I feel
Will they ever come to an end?
We all lost someone special that day —
A son, a brother, a husband, a father,
An uncle and a friend.
****
We all laugh and cry as we share
The stories of our past.
A prime example that life is way too short
And time goes by too fast.
****
So hug the people that you love.
Let them know just how special they are.
Lord knows, I would give anything
For another of my little brother’s hugs;
To tell him I love him,
Face to face, heart to heart.
****
I could go on forever about the regrets
And sadness that I feel every day.
But I know he’s with God, for that
I’m thankful and now I pray.
****
I pray that Jim is in heaven smiling down on us.
I pray that during these hard times we all find the strength to stand tall.
I pray that our children are blessed with long, happy lives filled with love.
I pray that my older brother will move closer; too much time has already been lost.
I pray that when I think of my little brother I can smile and not cry.
I pray that someday we will all be together in heaven.
With that I thank God and will end in Jesus’ name.
Amen.
