Sheriff to get 2 new patrol cars (12/27/05)
Jay County Commissioners
By By MARY ANN LEWIS-
The Jay County Sheriff’s Department will be getting a couple of new cars in 2006.
Jay County Commissioners this morning appointed Sheriff Todd Penrod to be the purchasing agent for two new Chevrolet Impala patrol cars to be purchased from Ken Kunkle Chevrolet and Olds in Portland. Total cost for the single colored vehicles will be $33,498.96.
Kunkle’s bid was the lowest of the four bids presented to commissioners Milo Miller Jr., Gary Theurer, and Faron Parr at their Dec. 19 meeting.
Additionally today, commissioners discussed the possibility of expanding the Jay County Courthouse Annex at 504 W. Arch St.
Purdue Cooperative Extension Agent John Knipp had told commissioners in the past he needed more room at the present site, and commissioners today instructed Bill Milligan, administrator of Jay/Portland Building and Planning, to see how far to the south the current building could be expanded.
Miller said Knipp had recently raised the issue once again.
Milligan said expanding toward the sidewalk “goes on the average of the block, unless the issue is taken to the Board of Zoning Appeals.”
Commissioners are looking at the possibility of expanding the annex an additional 10 feet to the south to provide for additional room as well as a conference area.
“I think we could do it for about $25,000,” Miller said.
The annex serves as office space for both the Jay County office of the Purdue Cooperative Extension Service and the Jay County Health Department. It was purchased in 2001.
Additionally today commissioners heard Bettie Jacobs, district administrator/educator of the Jay County Soil and Water Conservation District say the district’s annual meeting is set for Feb. 22, at the Jay County 4-H building at the fairgrounds.
The theme for this year’s meeting will be “Methamphetamine and the Farmer.”[[In-content Ad]]
