Sheriff's storage building planned?
Jay County Building Corporation
The Jay County Building Corporation will sit down with the Jay County Commissioners next month to discuss plans for a storage building on a lot near the jail.
Jeff Badders of SchenkelShultz told the building corporation board Thursday that the sheriff and commissioners had discussed building a storage building on the southwest corner of Ship and Water streets.
The money to build that structure would come from remaining jail fund dollars.
Badders explained that the storage unit would house large evidence items like cars and boats as well as other items.
The county currently rents storage space for those items.
A former ambulance used as the vehicle for the sheriff’s emergency response team will also be stored in the new facility.
Badders said the commissioners would likely want to pave the lot as well.
Board president Carl Walker said he’d like to talk the plan over with the commissioners before deciding to spend those remaining funds.
“I think that’s maybe what we’ll do is have a joint meeting between you and the commissioners,” Badders said.
In other business, Badders said the jail project is almost complete.
Although the major work was completed around the end of 2010, tweaks, fixes and changes have been made during the last six months.
Badders said there is one more change order for more than $10,000 that must be paid, but otherwise the county can prepare to sign off on final construction paperwork.
The board also approved claims of $61,323.25 — including $54,600 for video visitation equipment for the jail.[[In-content Ad]]
