Short members, district gets Tox-Away update (09/23/2008)
Jay County Solid Waste District
By By MIKE SNYDER-
There wasn't a lot on the agenda for members of the Jay County Solid Waste District board of directors.
And there weren't a lot of members present.
For only the second time in the district's history, lack of a quorum canceled the monthly board meeting on Monday.
The three members present agreed to set a special meeting for Monday, Oct. 6 at 10 a.m. in the commissioners' room at the Jay County Courthouse. The only item on the agenda will be signing of claims.
District executive director Kay Hayes gave a brief update on the district's annual Tox-Away Day to the three board members present Monday.
Hayes told board members Gary Theurer, Bill Gibson and Gerald Kirby that volume was about the same as it has been over the past few years, but that the weather was dramatically better.
The annual collection of household hazardous waste, which has traditionally been held in October, was moved forward several weeks this year.
Hayes said that approximately 380 vehicles went through the drop-off line at the Jay County Fairgrounds.
She said that more appliances were collected than in past years, and that the collection of expired or unwanted prescription medications by the Jay County Drug Prevention Coalition was also a big success.
This is the second year that collection of medications has been coordinated by the waste district.[[In-content Ad]]
