Show should have gotten more coverage (03/20/08)

Letters to the Editor

To the editor:

I have never been an individual to speak up unless pushed to the limit. The limit has been pushed and it is time to speak up. As General Manager of Bearcreek Farms for over 8 years and a part of Bearcreek Farms from its existence, I feel we have always tried to support Jay County and surrounding counties in good and bad financial times.

You always hear people proclaim, "That we should support the arts in Jay County" but that doesn't just mean "Arts Place". Jay County has several professional and civic organizations presenting quality entertainment throughout the year, including Bearcreek Farms Goodtimes Theatre. How is the community to get excited over these performances when our local newspaper is not willing to get excited?

Jay County Civic Theatre presented "The Sound of Music" at Bearcreek Farms for 7 shows beginning on March 6. I was not a huge fan of Civic Theatre because I have always been around professional theatre that is until I saw Jay County Civic Theatre's "Sound of Music". It was by far one of the best non-professional shows that I have ever seen. My hat goes off to the director and the board for bringing together over 40 members and creating a talented cast of singers.

It is sad that no one from the Commercial Review could find time to come out and review the show or at least take some photos and hype up the production so that more would come to the performances and witness first hand the tremendous talent that exists in our small community.

I know the Civic Theatre purchased ads from the Commercial Review as well as Bearcreek Farms. That is not the issue with the newspaper. The issue is what is happening within our community, is news worthy and will benefit the readers of our County and the surrounding areas. In addition to providing family entertainment that is wholesome and fun.

I personally thank everyone who bought a ticket and ventured the long drive out to Bearcreek Farms (yes we are in Jay County) and watched The Sound of Music.

general manager,
