Shreve places 4th in MAC

A former Patriot helped the Kent State University men’s track team to a runner-up finish in the Mid-American Conference Indoor Championships.
Dexter Shreve, a 2009 Jay County High School graduate, picked up a fourth-place finish in the heptathlon for the Golden Flashes, who scored 117 points to finish in second place Saturday behind host Akron.
Shreve scored 5,006 points in the event, trailing Central Michigan’s Tim Reynolds for third place by less than 100.
The junior started strong, winning the first event of the heptathlon with a time of 7.07 seconds in the 60-meter dash. He added a third-place finish in the shot put with a toss of 39 feet, 3 inches.
Shreve was also fifth in the high jump (6 feet, 2 ¾ inches) and the 1,000 run (2 minutes, 47.23 seconds).

Greg Kahlig
Fort Recovery – 2010
Was one of three University of Findlay men’s basketball players to score in double figures Wednesday as the Oilers opened the Great Lakes Intercollegiate Athletic Conference Tournament with a 72-66 win over Grand Valley State.
Kahlig was a perfect 6-for-6 at the foul line for Findlay (21-6) in his 13-point effort. He also had six rebounds, two assists and a block.
The sophomore totaled 10 points, two assists and a rebound Saturday as the Oilers capped the regular season with a 75-62 victory over Lake Superior State.

Josh Ludy
Jay County – 2008
Got the scoring started for the No. 25 Baylor University baseball team on Friday in its 15-3 trouncing of 22nd-ranked UCLA.
Ludy pushed the first run across in a three-run third inning with a bases-loaded walk. He also walked and scored a run in the seventh inning.
The senior catcher had a hit and an RBI in a 6-2 victory Tuesday over Sam Houston State, and drew a walk in Baylor’s 8-6 loss to UCLA on Sunday.

Kendra Brunswick
Fort Recovery – 2011
Scored in double figures Saturday in the Edison Community College women’s basketball team’s 81-51 slaughter of Lakeland.
Brunswick hit a 3-pointer for the 14th straight game and finished with 13 points. She also had eight rebounds, six assists and a steal.

Cori Vormohr
Jay County – 2009
Posted a career-best time as she competed for the Ball State University women’s swim team, which placed sixth Saturday at the Mid-American Conference Championships hosted by Akron.
Vormohr’s best finish came in the 100-yard breaststroke as she placed 21st in a career-best 1 minute, 4.82 seconds. Her previous best time was 1:07.03.
She was also 24th in the 200 breaststroke in 2:21.24 and 35th in the 50 freestyle in 24.41.

Pazia Speed
Jay County – 2010
Was one of three Huntington University women’s basketball players to post double-figure points Friday as the team closed its season with a 60-47 loss to Bethel in the Mid-Central Conference Tournament.
Speed hit a pair of 3-pointers and finished with 12 points for the Foresters (20-10). She added five rebounds, three assists and two steals.
Megan Taylor
Jay County – 200
Ran for the Manchester College women’s track team as it posted a runner-up finish Saturday at the 15-team Fred Wilt Memorial Invitational hosted by Anderson.
Taylor turned in an 11th-place finish in the 800-meter run in 2 minutes, 34.73 seconds.

Joanna Snyder
Fort Recovery – 2009
Shared the scoring lead in the Ohio Northern University women’s basketball team’s 65-52 victory over Otterbein Feb. 23 in the semifinal round of the Ohio Athletic Conference Tournament.
Snyder shot 50 percent from the field for the Polar Bears (21-6), finishing with 12 points. She also had two rebounds, one steal and one assist.
The junior totaled four points, three assists and a block as Ohio Northern dropped the OAC championship game to Mount Union on Saturday, 77-60.[[In-content Ad]]
