'Skins stomp Tribe (12/13/04)

WAPAKONETA, Ohio — Fifty percent.
The Indians tried like crazy in the fourth quarter to come back from a 21-point halftime deficit. But, the margin was too wide after the Wapakoneta Redskins out-shot them by 50 percent in the first half, and the Fort Recovery girls basketball team lost 60-52.
The Tribe (4-2) scored just four points in the first quarter, and shot 6-of-33 (18 percent) in the first half.
Wapakoneta (5-1) took advantage as it was on fire, shooting 15-of-22 in the first half for 68 percent. It finished the game at 59 percent, including a 6-of-8 effort from 3-point range.
Betsy Ruppert and the rest of the Redskin starting lineup carried the team. She scored a game-high 15 points while adding four assists and three blocks in 32 minutes, and three other starters played at least 28 minutes and scored in double figures.
Krissy Koester finished with 13 points, six rebounds and four blocks, and Lindsey Kentner had 12 points, six rebounds, five assists and two steals. Erica Drexler had 11 points and four assists.
Chelse Helmstetter, who played 23 minutes, scored seven points and matched Koester and Drexler with a team-high six rebounds.
Fort Recovery fell even further behind in the third quarter, trailing by 24 with eight minutes to play. It outscored Wapakoneta 24-8 in the final period for the final margin.
No Indian player scored in double figures as they matched the Redskins six 3-pointers, but needed 22 attempts to do so. Megan Wenning was the high scorer with nine points off the bench, and Tiff Gaerke followed with eight points.
Gaerke also had a game-best 10 rebounds to go along with one block. Holly Stein finished with seven rebounds and three steals.
Vicki Roessner dished out six assists and added three steals, and Ciera Rammel finished with four assists.
Staugler paces Fort
In junior varsity action Sam Staugler racked up 21 points for Fort Recovery as it dominated Wapakoneta 49-22.
Staugler finished 9-of-13 (69 percent) from the field and made her only 3-point attempt for the Indians, who were up 19-1 after the first quarter. She also grabbed 10 rebounds for a double-double.
Jill Pottkotter also recorded a double-double with 12 points and 12 rebounds. She added three steals and two blocks.
Fort Recovery bumped it’s lead to 33-9 at halftime and cruised to the victory.
