Snyder earns honors
Collegiate Check-up
On the court and in the classroom, Joanna Snyder was one of the best in the Ohio Athletic Conference.
Snyder, a 2009 Fort Recovery High School graduate, earned a pair of honors from the OAC this week, picking up all-conference honorable mention in women’s basketball and being named to the all-conference academic team.
The Ohio Northern University junior started 26 out of 27 games for the Polar Bears (21-6) this season, averaging 9.7 points per game. She shot 82.4 percent from the free-throw line and finished 12th in the conference in steals (0.9 per game) and 13th in blocks (0.7 per game).
Recipients of the OAC academic award must have at least a 3.25 grade point average.
Snyder was also named to the College Sports Information Directors of America Academic All-District 7 team.
Billy Wellman
Jay County – 2009
Led the offense for the Ball State University baseball team Saturday in its 15-5 loss to Missouri.In the lineup as the designated hitter, Wellman doubled to center field in the eighth inning to drive in shortstop T.J. Weir. He also had an RBI single to right-center for the Cardinals (2-7) in the sixth inning as he finished 2-for-4.
Josh Ludy
Jay County – 2008
Scored a run in the Baylor University baseball team’s 6-1 victory Saturday over U.C. Irvine as the Bears hosted the QTI Baylor Classic.
Max Muncy and Ludy drew back-to-back walks to lead off the eighth inning for Baylor (9-6), and Ludy eventually scored on a single by Michael Howard. Ludy also had a single in the sixth inning.
The junior added a 3-for-4 effort Saturday in an 8-0 loss to Lamar. He had a hit and a run in an 8-7 loss Sunday to Lamar, and two RBIs in a 9-4 loss Tuesday to Texas Christian.
Kendra Brunswick
Fort Recovery – 2011
Powered the Edison Community College women’s basketball team to a 92-74 victory Saturday over Columbus State.
Brunswick tallied three 3-pointers and scored 21 points as the Chargers improved to 16-10. She also had nine rebounds and four assists.
Brandon Reynard
Jay County – 2009
Competed in a relay for the Indiana Tech men’s track team at the NAIA Indoor Track and Field Championships held March 1 through 3 at the SPIRE Institute in Geneva, Ohio.
Reynard and teammates D’Quan Ruth, Jordan Foster and Austen Barnes qualified for the finals of the 4x400-meter relay with a fifth-place finish in the preliminary round. They placed fifth in the finals, finishing in 3 minutes, 15.93 seconds.
Greg Kahlig
Fort Recovery – 2010
Helped the University of Findlay men’s basketball team to the Great Lakes Intercollegiate Athletic Conference championship as the Oilers defeated Hillsdale 71-52 Sunday.
Kahlig finished with seven points in the GLIAC tournament championship game. He also had two rebounds.
The sophomore totaled eight points, two rebounds and one assist for Findlay (23-6) in its 63-61 victory over Wayne State in the tournament semifinals.
The conference title earned the Oilers a berth in the NCAA Division II tournament, in which they will play 11th-ranked Northern Kentucky in the opening round Saturday at 8:30 p.m.
Neal Fennig

Competed for the Ball State University men’s swim team, which finished sixth out of seven squads Saturday at the Mid-American Conference Championships hosted by Miami.
Fennig’s top effort came in the 100-yard freestyle, in which he placed 28th in 48.21 seconds. He was 34th in both the 50 freestyle and 200 freestyle in times of 22.35 and 1 minute, 45.26 seconds respectively.[[In-content Ad]]
