Society should turn to the Bible
Letters to the Editor
To the editor:
This is in response to Samm Quinn’s column in Saturday’s edition of The Commercial Review.
I remember a time when it was unthinkable not only to commit such acts but also to even discuss such things in public. It used to be a shame to live a life God said was an abomination. Oh how times have changed — some think for the better, some for the worse.
But since the Bible and what God has to say about same-sex marriage aren’t selling points anymore, everyone is free to do whatever they want, right? Make our own rules and be politically correct.
May I suggest some ideas?
1) Why don’t we, as Christians, pray for the healing of God’s institution called marriage? Don’t approach the Lord and let him know that we have decided to change his laws.
2) “Don’t remove the ancient landmarks, which thy fathers have set.”
3) Understand what God has called sin cannot be changed. Judgment comes upon people who break the law. Sin will take you farther than you want to go.
I believe the column’s main point was to keep the state, the church, the Bible and God all in their respective places. Good luck.
Madalyn Murray O’Hair decided prayer should not be allowed in schools. Do you think you can keep the Holy Ghost out? As long as there are tests in school, there is prayer going on. Nevertheless, when we begin to think we know better than God and decide to change the rules of what is good and evil and what is moral and immoral, look out.
But we saw this coming: when our nation approved of killing unborn babies; when Sunday was no long the Lord’s day and became sports day; when people started to change what God said in his word to fit their lifestyle, we knew the scriptures were being fulfilled. (Look it up: Matthew 24 and Luke 17)
Remember this. Bible-loving and God-fearing Christians cannot compromise their beliefs.
Unborn babies are God’s creation in progress. Keep your hands off them.
Marriage was created by God as a holy act. Don’t mess it up.
Prayer should be automatically put back in schools, in legislative branches of government and especially in the White House because the Democrats and the Republicans have made a total wreck of everything.
“The wicked shall be turned into hell, and all the nations that forget God.” (Ps. 9:17)
Now, what are all the 100 churches in Jay County going to do: Sleep through another revolution? You preachers need to do more than pound your pulpits and count your attendance. We need to sound the alarm and blow the trumpet. Write your senator and representative believers. Wake up. Somebody better pray for America because she’s in deep trouble.
Radical, Bible-thumping Christians understand what happens when standards of morality are let down. That’s why we have an altar in our church, to humble ourselves before our God and come to our senses realizing we have gone our own way. It doesn’t matter what sin we have committed. Turn back to the Lord, depart from evil and you can start over and be forgiven. All of us have sinned and need a Savior. Jesus Christ still has the power, through his shed blood on the cross, to set all of us free.
Remember: God loves you and there’s still room at the cross for you.
Sincerely,
Pastor Phill Jellison
