Spay, neuter family pets

Letters to the Editor

To the editor:
I authorized the death of a cat today.
This was not a casual, “it is bugging me” decision, as I had been feeding this stray for a month and hoped to get her spayed and evaluated by the vet, perhaps to move indoors to a safe home.
Evaluation was that she was too ill to expose her to my healthy pets.
So now I am the grim reaper for one nice little cat.
How many needy pets have you let die by omission or negligence? I hope I am surprised by Portland citizens who will act positively rather than reaching for a gun or a boot as I have seen.
So here is my plea ... spay and neuter your animals! Trust me, they don’t mind if there is a halt in their sexual life. That is your issue, not theirs.
The Jay County Humane Society is offering a low cost clinic that is well advertised. They did not ask for my endorsement, but maybe if a cat had been spayed six months ago, I would not have had to give the order to kill one today.
