Speak up for your rights

Editor's Mailbag

I am writing this ahead of the election to inform all voters who cherish the U.S. Constitution and what it stands for.

I am mainly talking about your Second Amendment rights and how they are slowly disappearing.

Since as individuals we can’t sway Congress with money to get the right people in, we ban together to form a group such as the National Rifle Association (NRA) to do the job.

This way we try to help the right people get to Congress that support the Second Amendment.

Since the U.S. Supreme Court upheld parts of the campaign finance law, it bans free speech by radio or TV 30 days before the primary (spring) and 60 days before the general election (fall).

If you violate the law and are found guilty, you get a huge fine and five years in federal prison.

The latest defeat in the Senate was a bill called the Protection of Lawful Commerce in Arms Act.

Its function was to stop all the frivolous lawsuits brought against gun manufacturers and dealers.

After the Democrats loaded it down with additional amendments, the NRA withdrew its support and the bill died in the Senate.

Even though there are faults in both parties, the Democrats, along with the anti-gun groups, are still waging a war to get rid of all our guns from law-abiding citizens a little at a time.

If you think John Kerry will be a better president, even though he said he is a hunter, you have been deceived.

If he is elected into office and the Republicans lose control of the Congress, watch out.

So I implore you, the ones who cherish your Second Amendment rights, to vote with your conscience.

Help preserve our constitutional right to keep and bear arms.
