Special courthouse event
Opinion
Something pretty special happened Saturday night in Jay County, and if we’re lucky it will happen again.
That evening a group of about 25 singers from Ball State University performed a free a capella concert in the rotunda of the Jay County Courthouse. Under the direction of Andrew Crow, the singers filled that lovely space with equally lovely harmonies.
It was part of a summer project by BSU funded under a generous grant from something called Discovery.
In addition to the Jay County Courthouse, the group performed at the Muncie library, the George Rogers Clark National Historic Park in Vincennes, Unity of Louisville, the Cincinnati Observatory, the Boone County Courthouse in Lebanon, and the Indiana Landmarks Center in Indianapolis.
About 75 fortunate souls were on hand to hear lovely renditions of sacred and secular music, including a marvelous arrangement of “Back Home Again in Indiana” that could send a shiver down your spine.
How Jay County was fortunate enough to host the event is something we don’t know.
But we do know it would be great to have a repeat performance next year with an even larger audience to enjoy it. — J.R.
