Speed hitting .400 for Foresters

Two seasons away from the softball field did nothing to slow down Pazia Speed.
The 2010 Jay County High School graduate is the No. 2 hitter for the Huntington University softball team after racking up four hits Tuesday in a doubleheader split with Saint Francis.
Speed, who started during her freshman through junior seasons at JCHS, went 3-for-4 for the Foresters (23-15) as they won the second game 11-3. She also drove in two runs.
She had a single in the game-one defeat.
The sophomore went 2-for-4 with a run April 19 in an 8-6 loss to Indiana Tech.
Speed, who has started the last seven games for HU, ranks second on the team and fourth in the Mid-Central Conference with a .414 batting average. She has three runs, six RBIs, two doubles and a home run in 18 games.
Karen Bollenbacher
South Adams – 2010
Also played for the Huntington University softball team in its doubleheader splits with Indiana Tech and St. Francis.
Karen Bollenbacher had a single in the second game against St. Francis on Tuesday. She added a hit in her only at bat against Indiana Tech.

Josh Ludy
Jay County – 2008
Earned the Phillips 66 Big 12 Conference Player of the Week for the second straight week as he continued to lead the Baylor University baseball team, which is ranked fourth in the USA Today Coaches Poll.
Ludy became just the sixth player in Big 12 history to win the award in back-to-back weeks as he hit .533 (8-of-13) in five games for the Bears (38-6) from April 16 through 22.
His highlight came in the final game of Baylor’s series against then-No. 2 Texas A&M, when he fouled off 10 straight pitches before blasting a home run on the 14th pitch of his at bat in the first inning.
He added a double in the sixth inning as he finished the game 2-for-4 with two hits and two RBIs.
The senior went 2-for-4 in Saturday’s 1-0 win over the Aggies, and also had two hits in Friday’s 5-3 victory.

Brandon Reynard
Jay County - 2009
Turned in a win for the Indiana Tech men’s track team Saturday at the Pre-Conference Challenge hosted by Indiana Wesleyan.
Reynard cruised to victory as the Warriors earned three of the top four spots in the 400-meter hurdles. He had a winning time of 54.19 seconds with teammates D’Quan Ruth (55.29) and Evan Morton second and fourth respectively.

Amanda Johnson
Jay County – 2008
Also competed at the Pre-Conference Challenge for the host Indiana Wesleyan University women’s track team.
Johnson trailed three runners from Indiana Tech in her lone race of the meet. She posted a time of 1 minute, 0.66 seconds, for fourth place in the 400-meter dash.

Billy Wellman
Jay County – 2009

Helped the Ball State University baseball team to a 5-4 victory Sunday over Eastern Michigan.
Wellman smacked a two-run double in the first inning as the Cardinals (11-26) jumped out to a 3-0 lead. He also had a hit in Saturday’s 4-0 loss to the Eagles.

Megan Taylor
Jay County – 2011
Recorded a pair of fourth-place finishes as the Manchester College women’s track team hosted Saturday’s Spartan Classic.
Taylor improved by more than three seconds from her seed time in her lone individual event, placing fourth in the 1,500-meter run in 5 minutes, 9.58 seconds. She also teamed with Megan Hammel, Meredith Cors and Emma Weiler for fourth in the 4x400 relay in 4:24.36.

Megan Adams
Jay County – 2008
Picked up a pair of victories Saturday as the Huntington University women’s tennis team defeated Hillsdale 6-3.
Adams dominated the first set at No. 5 singles on the way to a 6-1, 6-4 victory over Olivia Renfroe. She also teamed with Lauren Sunderman to top Morgan Linden and Abby Sjoerdsma 8-6 at No. 2 doubles.

Jordan McMillan
Jay County – 2011
Came away with a couple of top-10 individual finishes Saturday for the Ball State University women’s track team at the Polytan Invitational hosted by Indiana.
McMillan’s best effort came in the 100-meter dash as she placed eighth in 12.59 seconds. She was also ninth with a time of 25.38 in the 200 dash.
The freshman teamed with Janae Taylor, Rebecca Lomax and Thekla Lorenz for third in the 4x100 relay in 47.17.

Drew Houck
Jay County – 2011
Posted the No. 3 score for the Indiana University East men’s golf team, which finished third out of four schools at the Cincinnati Christian University Spring Invitational.
Houck turned in an 85 in his opening round Thursday at White Water Golf Course. He added a 91 Friday to finish 13th overall with a 176.

Sam Heckard
South Adams – 2010
Competed for the Bethel College men’s track team Friday at the Al Owens Classic hosted by Grand Valley State University.
Heckard finished 43rd in the 5,000-meter run with a time of 17 minutes, 33.77 seconds.

Jana Beitler
South Adams – 2009
Had one of just three hits for the Goshen College softball team in the second game of Tuesday’s doubleheader against Calvin.
Beitler finished 1-for-2 for the Maple Leafs (14-29) as they dropped the second game 9-0. She scored a run in Goshen’s 5-3 loss in the opener.[[In-content Ad]]
