Speed leads HU over Grace
Collegiate Check-up
A Jay County High School graduate led the Huntington University women’s basketball team to its 15th victory.
Pazia Speed, JCHS class of 2010, scored 14 points in the Foresters’ 60-54 victory Saturday over Grace.
Speed finished 6-of-9 from the field as she led three HU players in double figures. She also had three assists, three rebounds, two steals and a block.
The sophomore also had three points, four rebounds and a steal Wednesday as the Foresters (15-8) fell 62-30 to NAIA Division II No. 1 Indiana Wesleyan (23-2).
Jordan McMillan
Jay County – 2011
Anchored the winning women’s distance medley relay for the Ball State University women’s track team at Saturday’s Indiana Wesleyan Invitational.
McMillan joined teammates Madelyn Webster, Lindsay Wallace, Madeline Goheen and Emilee Zets to win the distance medley in 12 minutes, 51.28 seconds. She also placed ninth out of 34 runners in the 200 dash in 27.19.
At the Jan. 14 Bowling Green Challenge, the freshman finished 28th in the 200 dash in 27.83.
Kendra Brunswick
Ft. Recovery – 2011
Scored 20 points Saturday in the Edison Community College women’s basketball team’s 82-74 victory over Columbus State.
Brunswick hit four 3-pointers as she scored in double figures for the sixth straight game. She also had six rebounds and one assist for the Chargers (12-7).
Neal Fennig
Jay County – 2011
Picked up a fifth-place finish Saturday in the Ball State University men’s swim team’s 134-107 loss to Miami (Ohio).
Fennig’s top individual effort came in the 200-yard freestyle as he placed fifth in 1 minutes, 51.65 seconds.
Cori Vormohr
Jay County – 2009
Turned in a sixth-place finish as the Ball State University women’s swim team lost 189-106 Saturday to Ohio.
Vormohr posted a time of 1 minute, 8.8 seconds to take sixth in the 100 breaststroke. She also finished seventh in the 200 breaststroke in 2:29.58.
Nick Teeter
S. Adams – 2010
Tallied his seventh straight double-digit scoring game Saturday in the Huntington University men’s basketball team’s 81-77 win over Grace.
Teeter shot 4-of-6 from the field and made all of his six free-throw attempts for the Foresters (14-11) as he scored 14 points. He also had three assists, three rebounds and a block.
The sophomore had three points, two assists, two steals and a rebound in Tuesday’s 80-78 loss to Indiana Wesleyan.
Brandon Reynard
Jay County – 2009
Was part of a runner-up relay for the Indiana Tech men’s track team at the SPIRE Midwest Indoor Open Friday and Saturday.
Reynard joined Austen Barnes, Jordan Foster and D’Quan Ruth to finish second in the 4x400 relay in 3 minutes, 20.05 seconds. He was also seventh out of 58 competitors with a time of 49.84 in the 400 dash.
Greg Kahlig
Ft. Recovery – 2010
Scored 12 points in back-to-back victories for the Findlay University men’s basketball team.
Kahlig shot 5-of-7 from the field in a 79-49 win Saturday over Ashland, scoring his 12 points in just 18 minutes. He added five rebounds, two assists, two blocks and a steal.
He had 12 points to go along with five rebounds, two assists and two steals Jan. 26 as the Oilers (14-4) defeated Lake Erie 80-55.
Dexter Shreve
Jay County – 2009
Competed for the Kent State University men’s track team at Friday’s Youngstown State Invitational.
Shreve finish eighth in the pole vault at 4.3 meters (14 feet, 1¼ inches).
Joanna Snyder
Ft. Recovery – 2009
Was one of four Ohio Northern University women’s basketball players to score in double figures Wednesday in a 75-63 win over Capital.
Snyder shot 6-of-10 from the field and finished with 12 points. She also had five assists and five rebounds as the Polar Bears improved to 16-3.
She totaled three points, three assists, two steals and a rebound in Saturday’s 63-46 win over John Carroll.
Amanda Johnson
Jay County – 2008
Helped Indiana Wesleyan University women’s track team to a runner-up relay finish Saturday as it hosted the Indiana Wesleyan Invitational.
Johnson joined fellow Wildcats Christian Sandberg, Kayla Ewert and Jordan Hofer to take second in the 4x800-meter relay in 9 minutes, 55.66 seconds. She also finished ninth with a time of 1:02.74 in the 400 dash.
Sam Heckard
South Adams – 2010
Ran for the Bethel College men’s track team Saturday as it also competed at the IWU Invitational.
Heckard finished 14th for the Pilots in the 1,000-meter run in 3 minutes, 14.02 seconds. He was also 31st in the mile run at 5:21.63.[[In-content Ad]]
