Speed leads HU to 15th win

The third time was a charm, and Pazia Speed led the way.
The 2010 Jay County High School graduate powered the Huntington University women’s basketball team to its 15th win Wednesday, 69-52 over Bethel.
Speed shot 6-of-9 from the field and 6-of-7 from the line and scored 19 points to lead the Foresters, who had lost their previous two games. She added six rebounds, three assists and two steals.
The sophomore also had 11 points, two rebounds and one assist Saturday in a 63-61 loss to Mount Vernon Nazarene.
She leads Huntington (15-9) in scoring at 12.2 points per game while also averaging three rebounds, two assists and 1.6 steals.
Josh Ludy
Jay County – 2008
Was selected to the All-Big 12 preseason first team by College Baseball Daily.
Ludy, a senior catcher, joined Baylor University teammate Max Muncy as an all-conference first-team selection. Ludy finished second to Muncy for the Bears last year with 34 RBIs.
He hit .278 with 26 runs, 10 doubles and three home runs.
Joanna Snyder
Fort Recovery – 2009
Racked up 19 points Saturday to help lead the Ohio Northern University women’s basketball team to an 83-73 victory over Marietta.
Snyder shot 9-of-17 in the victory for the Polar Bears, who are now 19-3. She also had one rebound, one assist and one block.
The junior finished with 12 points, nine rebounds and three assists Wednesday in an 88-82 double-overtime victory over Heidelberg.
Cori Vormohr
Jay County – 2009
Picked up a fourth-place finish Friday for the Ball State University women’s swim team in a 147-95 victory over Southern Illinois.
Vormohr’s top individual effort came in the 100-yard breaststroke as she took fourth in 1 minute, 8.98 seconds. She joined Kayla Hussey, Jackie Iglesias and Mackenzie Imbro for a fifth-place effort in the 200 freestyle relay in 1:41.82.
She also teamed with Sara Hostetler, Cheyanne Jackson and Imbro to take third in the 200 freestyle relay in 1:41.4 in a 143-100 loss to Notre Dame on Saturday.
Greg Kahlig
Fort Recovery – 2010
Led the University of Findlay men’s basketball team in scoring Saturday in an 85-76 victory over Northern Michigan.
Kahlig had an outstanding shooting night, going 5-of-6 from the field and 8-of-9 at the foul line for 19 points. He added three rebounds for the Oilers (16-5).
The sophomore totaled seven points and four rebounds Feb. 2 in a 70-56 loss to Michigan Tech.
Neal Fennig
Jay County – 2011
Picked up a fifth-place finish for the Ball State University men’s swim team Friday in a 146-91 loss to Southern Illinois.
Fennig placed sixth in the 200-yard freestyle, finishing in 1 minute, 50.98 seconds. He teamed with Conner Snare, Andrew Hostetler and Bryan Forbes for fifth in the 200 medley relay in 1:45.04 and joined David Wood, Ben Fredrickson and Drew Tharp for fifth in the 200 freestyle relay in 1:32.83.
Nick Teeter
South Adams – 2010
Made the most of his move to the starting lineup Saturday, helping lead the Huntington University men’s basketball team to a 90-67 victory over Mount Vernon Nazarene.
Teeter went 5-of-6 from the long distance and was one of three Foresters in double figures with 17 points. He also had four rebounds and an assist.
The sophomore finished with eight points, one rebound and one assist Tuesday in an 89-80 loss to Bethel. Huntington is 15-12 on the year.
Sam Heckard
South Adams – 2010
Ran for the Bethel College men’s track team Saturday as it placed fourth out of five teams at the Taylor Indoor Invitational.
Heckard posted a time of 10 minutes, 46.94 seconds to finish 27th in the 3,000-meter run.
Kendra Brunswick
Fort Recovery – 2011
Scored in double figures Saturday as the Edison Community College women’s basketball team fell 67-65 to Lakeland.
Brunswick hit all of her three field goals from long range as she finished with 16 points for the Chargers (12-9). She also had three rebounds, three assists and three steals.
Dexter Shreve
Jay County – 2009
Competed for the Kent State University men’s track team Saturday as it placed 11th out of 14 teams at the Sykes & Sabock Challenge Cup hosted by Penn State.
Shreve posted an 18th-place finish for the Golden Flashes in the high jump. He cleared the bar at 6 feet, 4¾ inches.[[In-content Ad]]
