Speed leads MCC in scoring

­Thus far, Pazia Speed has been one of the best players in the Mid-Central Conference. And she’s on the national leader board as well.
The 2010 Jay County High School graduate broke the 20-point barrier for the third time in four games Friday, racking up 21 for the Huntington University women’s basketball team in a 66-61, loss to Indiana Tech.
Speed leads the MCC in scoring at 17.2 points per game, which is also good for 24th in the National Association of Intercollegiate Athletics. She is among the best in the country from the free-throw line, ranking 13th in the nation at 89.7 percent (26-of-29).
The sophomore scored her 21 points against Indiana Tech while shooting 50 percent from the field and a perfect 6-of-6 from the line. She added four rebounds, two assists and a steal.
Speed, who scored a career-high 28 points in the Foresters’ season opener, added nine points, five rebounds and one assist Saturday in a 69-57 loss to sixth-ranked Concordia.

Greg Kahlig
Fort Recovery - 2010
Turned in a double-double Thursday for the University of Findlay men’s basketball team as it knocked off West Liberty State 84-80.
Kahlig racked up 12 points for the Oilers (2-1), hitting 7-of-8 from the foul line. He added 10 rebounds to go along with five blocked shots, one steal and one assist.

Nick Teeter
South Adams – 2010
Broke through as the No. 2 scorer for the Huntington University men’s basketball team Saturday in an 85-68 victory over Aquinas.
Teeter, who was scoreless in the previous two games, caught fire and hit 6-of-8 from the field including 5-of-7 from long distance for 17 points. He also had one rebound for the Foresters, who improved to 6-1.

Amanda Johnson
Jay County – 2008
Helped the Indiana Wesleyan University women’s cross country team to a 20th-place finish at Saturday’s National Association of Intercollegiate Athletics Championships in Vancouver, Wash.
Johnson was the No. 4 runner for the Wildcats, finishing the 5K race in 19 minutes, 53 seconds. She placed 120th overall.

Joanna Snyder
Ft. Recovery  – 2009
Shared the game-high in scoring Friday as the Ohio Northern University women’s basketball team defeated Transylvania 62-41.
Snyder hit all of her four free-throw attempts and match teammate Megan Porter with 13 points. She added four steals, four rebounds, three assists and two blocks.
The junior also had two points, seven rebounds, three assists and a steal Saturday in the Polar Bears’ 76-62 loss to Hanover.

Cori Vormohr
Jay County – 2009
Recorded a pair of sixth-place finishes in individual events Saturday to help the Ball State University women’s swim team to victory as it played host for the seven-team Doug Coers Invitational.
Vormohr top efforts came in breaststroke races as she placed sixth in both the 100- and 200-yard events. She had times of 1 minute, 10.2 seconds and 2 minutes, 29.97 seconds respectively.
She was also 10th with a time of 25.42 in the 50 freestyle.[[In-content Ad]]
