Speed scores 22 to lead HU

Pazia Speed just needed a game to get warmed up.
After scoring 11 points in the Huntington University women’s basketball team’s season opener, the 2010 Jay County High School graduate shot 60 percent from the field as she poured in 22 points in a 76-66 victory Tuesday over Concordia.
Speed, who averaged 11.8 points per game as a sophomore, tallied her game-high total on a 9-of-15 shooting effort. She hit her only 3-point attempt and was 3-for-3 from the foul line. She also had five rebounds, three assists and three steals for the Foresters (2-0).
The junior totaled 11 points, five rebounds, four steals and three assists as Huntington topped Aquinas 64-43 on Saturday.

Maddie Moore
South Adams – 2009
Capped her soccer career at Bluffton University by earning all-conference honors for the fourth straight season.
Moore was a first-team All-Heartland Collegiate Athletic Conference selection after sharing the team-high of seven goals this season with Laura Fish. She also had one assist.
She finished her career third on the Beavers’ all-time assists list with 11. She ranks fourth in points (43) and fifth in goals (16).

Mary Hudson
Jay County – 2012
Turned in a runner-up finish Saturday to help the Calvin College women’s swim team to a 145-77 victory over Alma.
Hudson posted a time of 1 minute, 12.96 seconds, to take second place for the Knights in the 100-yard breaststroke. She was fourth in the 100 butterfly in 1:06.21, and teamed with Rachel Colasurdo, Stephie Fox and Shelby Cloyd for second in the 200 medley relay in 1:57.43.
In the pool Saturday, the freshman was third in the 100 breaststroke in 1:12.07 and sixth in the 200 breaststroke in 2:39.54 as Calvin topped Wheaton 163-117. Hudson, Alex Dhaemens, Savannah VanWormer and Alayna Gallegos were fifth in the 200 medley relay in 1:57.07.

Frank Thien
Fort Recovery – 2009
Hauled in his fifth touchdown pass of the season Saturday as the Ohio Northern University football team rolled to a 51-7 victory over Wilmington.
Thien caught a 9-yard touchdown pass from Tate Humphrey to give the Polar Bears (4-5) a 48-7 lead early in the third quarter. The senior finished with three receptions for 38 yards, including a 27-yard grab in the second quarter.

Hannah Moore
South Adams – 2012
Finished off a top-three sweep for the NAIA No. 18 Huntington University women’s cross country team Saturday at the Crossroads League Championships hosted by Indiana Wesleyan.
Moore finished third in the race behind teammates Cendall Ogle (18 minutes, 35 seconds) and Gretchen Spahr for the champion Foresters. She posted a time of 18:45.74 in the 5K race and earned all-conference honors.
Huntington earned an automatic berth to the NAIA National Championships, which will be contested Nov. 17 at Fort Vancouver National Historic Site in Vancouver, Wash.

Allison Beitler
South Adams – 2010
Scored for the Goshen College women’s cross country team, which placed eighth out of nine times at the Crossroads League Championships.
Beitler finished third on the Maple Leafs squad with a time of 20 minutes, 57.72 seconds. She was 71st overall in a field of 133 runners.

Tim Lehman
South Adams – 2012
Competed in the men’s race as the Crossroad League Championships for Goshen College, which finished in third place.
Lehman completed the 8K course in 27 minutes, 46.56 seconds. He was the No. 9 runner for the Maple Leafs and finished 55th overall out of 119 athletes.

Sam Heckard
South Adams – 2010
Ran for the Bethel College men’s cross country team at the Crossroads League Championships as the Pilots finished eighth out of 10 teams.
Heckard was the No. 9 runner for Bethel with a time of 31 minutes, 48.39 seconds. He was 107th overall.
Eme Miller
Jay County – 2012
Picked up a second-place finish for the Defiance College women’s swim team, which lost 97-66 Saturday to Franklin.
Miller’s top individual effort came in the 200-yard breaststroke, in which she took the runner-up spot in 2 minutes, 51.35 seconds. She was fourth in the 200 individual medley in 2:28.84 and joined Emilee Boleyn, Jacqueline Loock and Savannah Marquez for second in the 400 freestyle relay in 4:07.89.

Kylie Kahlig
Fort Recovery – 2012
Was strong on the glass for the University of Northwestern Ohio women’s basketball team Saturday in its 95-86 victory over Midway.
Kahlig totaled seven rebounds, including four on the offensive end, for the Racers (1-1). She also had five points and a steal.
The freshman had two rebounds, one assist and one steal in UNOH’s season-opening loss to Berea.

Cori Vormohr
Jay County – 2009
Helped the Ball State University women’s swim team to a 176.5-117.5 victory Saturday over Bowling Green.
Vormohr turned in her best individual finish in the 200-yard breaststroke as she posted a time of 2 minutes, 26.88 seconds, for fourth place. She was fifth in the 50 freestyle in 24.98.
The senior also teamed with Elaine Pitsas, Katelyn Pratt and Mackenzie Imbro for a time of 1:49.05 in the 200 medley relay to take third place.

Jason Pottkotter
Fort Recovery – 2012
Scored his first career points Tuesday in the University of Northwestern Ohio men’s basketball team’s 98-75 loss to IU East.
Pottkotter hit a field goal and a free throw to finish with three points. He also had three rebounds and one assist in nine minutes of play for the Racers (1-1).

Dustin Wanner
South Adams – 2012
Forced a fumble for the Taylor University football team Saturday in its 21-0 loss to St. Francis.
Wanner knocked the ball away from Andre Turner on the opening kickoff of the second half, but Akeim Kelsaw of St. Francis was able to recover. He finished with one tackle for the Trojans (3-6).

Erin Hunt
Jay County – 2011
Played for the Bethel College women’s basketball team Saturday in its 75-62 victory over Indiana University Northwest.
Hunt saw three minutes of action in the victory. She is a sophomore guard for the Pilots.[[In-content Ad]]
