Pazia Speed’s Patriot career established her as one of the best players in Jay County High School history. Now she’s etched her name into the Huntington University record book as well.
Speed scored her 1,000th career point Saturday in helping lead the Forester women’s basketball team to a 64-49 victory over Rochester.
The senior scored 15 points in the game, with a 15-foot jumper late in the game that put her at an even 1,000 for her career. She added a team-high four assists, three rebounds and a steal in the win that gave the host team the Huntington University Tournament title.
She also had 16 points, three rebounds, three steals and two assists Friday in a tournament-opening victory over Wilberforce. She followed up her milestone effort by going 10-of-18 from the field with 22 points, five assists, three boards and two steals Tuesday as the Foresters topped Indiana Tech 79-65.
Speed is averaging 18.7 points, 4.2 rebounds and 2.2 assists this season. She ranks 15th nationally in the NAIA with a free-throw percentage of 92.1.

Eme Miller
Jay County – 2012
Broke her own record and became the first runner in Defiance College history to earn all-region honors in women’s cross country.
Miller shattered her own 6K school record at the NCAA Division III Great Lakes Regional in Grand Rapids, Mich., as she finished in 22 minutes, 37.9 seconds.
She broke her previous mark by 16 seconds and finished 25th in a field of nearly 250 athletes.

Greg Kahlig
Fort Recovery – 2010
Earned the Great Lakes Intercollegiate Athletic Conference Player of the Week Award as he powered the NCAA Division II No. 8 University of Findlay men’s basketball team to a 3-0 start.
Kahlig averaged 21.7 points, 6.3 rebounds and three assists in the Oilers’ first three games while shooting 55.6 percent from the field, 43.8 percent from 3-point range and 80 percent at the foul line. The stretch included a 30-point effort Monday in a 97-66 victory over Wheeling Jesuit.
The senior, who cleared the 1,200-point mark in the win, shot 11-of-19 from the field and 6-of-9 from 3-point land with four rebounds and two assists. He had 21 points, seven rebounds and four assists in a 96-68 win Nov. 14 over Cedarville, and recorded 14 points, eight boards and three assists in a 105-50 blowout of Marygrove in the season opener Nov. 9.

Erika Waugh
South Adams – 2011
Racked up a trio of victories Saturday in the Calvin College women’s swim team’s 199-68 victory over Olivet.
Waugh owned the long-distance events, winning the 500-yard freestyle by 13 seconds in 5 minutes, 27.18 seconds, and the 1,000 freestyle by nearly 30 seconds in 11:08.54. She also posted a time of 2:13.12 to take the top spot in the 200 backstroke.

Brock McFarland
Jay County – 2013
Was one of five players to score in double figures Saturday for the Grace College men’s basketball team as it rolled to a 109-72 win over Missouri Baptist.
McFarland caught fire from the field, shooting 6-of-8 while adding six rebounds, three assists and a pair of steals. He had six points and two assists for the Lancers (5-1) in Friday’s 88-87 loss to Holy Cross.

Erin Hunt
Jay County – 2011
Used long-distance shooting to help the Bethel College women’s basketball team even its record at 4-4 with a 77-67 win Tuesday over Holy Cross.
Hunt buried a trio of 3-pointers as she scored nine points for the Pilots. She also had three rebounds, three steals and two assists.

Kegan Comer
Jay County – 2013
Helped the University of St. Francis men’s basketball team bounce back from a tournament-opening loss for a 99-58 win Saturday over host Trinity Christian in the consolation game of the Troll Classic.
Comer started and had eight points and three rebounds for the Cougars, who improved to 6-3. He recorded nine points, three rebounds, two assists and a steal Friday in USF’s tournament-opening loss to St. Xavier.

Kylie Kahlig
Fort Recovery – 2012
Contributed to a big rebounding effort for the University of Northwestern Ohio women’s basketball team as it edged Cornerstone 62-60 Saturday.
Kahlig’s six rebounds helped give the Racers (3-1) a 52-34 advantage on the glass. She also had two points in the win.

Marshall Hull
Fort Recovery – 2013
Placed third in a pair of events Saturday in the University of Findlay men’s swim team’s 178-81 loss to Malone.
Hull was third in both the 100-yard backstroke in 1 minute, 0.75 seconds, and the 200 backstroke in 2:14.14. He teamed with Ian Kochheiser, Colton Sayers and Matthew Sheehan for a fourth-place time of 3:53.08 in the 400 medley relay.

Jason Pottkotter
Fort Recovery – 2012
Played for the University of Northwestern Ohio men’s basketball team on Saturday in its 84-81 loss to Cornerstone.
Pottkotter came off the bench and dished out a pair of assists for the Racers (2-3). He also had two points and one rebound.[[In-content Ad]]
