Sports park drainage plans pending (8/23/04)

Commissioners discuss Extreme To Chaos proposal

By By Mike [email protected]

No detailed plans have been submitted, but a Jay County Commissioner said this morning that he discussed drainage last week with one of the officials connected with a proposed extreme sports park.

Milo Miller Jr. told his fellow commissioners and the county surveyor this morning that he recently met with Craig Adolph, who is helping coordinate the project for local residents Glynn and Julie Barber.

Miller said that Adolph said complete drainage plans should be submitted in the next few weeks. Miller and fellow Commissioners Gary Theurer and Mike Leonhard also serve as the county drainage board.

An application for re-zoning as a planned unit development is pending. That approval will have to be obtained along with an OK of the drainage plans.

The proposed park, which would be located in the Portland Industrial Park on the city’s northeast side, would include a motocross track, bike trails, indoor and outdoor paintball areas and a 3/8-mile race track.

An update on the project will be given tonight to the Portland City Council by Barber and Adolph.

Also this morning, the commissioners were told by courthouse superintendent Roger McBride that he was recently contacted by Jeff Sprunger, the former owner of a building at 215 W. Main St. that was purchased earlier this year by the county.

Sprunger, who is still running his business, Hanni Plumbing, Heating and Cooling, out of the south portion of the building, told McBride that the roof is leaking in several places.

The commissioners asked McBride to contact roofing contractors to provide estimates for repairs.[[In-content Ad]]
