St. Henry jumps on Indians early (10/27/07)

FORT RECOVERY - One play a game does not make.
But this one certainly set the tone for a disappointing end to a history-making season.
The Fort Recovery Indians, hoping to cap off the best full-schedule season in school history, threw an interception for a touchdown on the first play from scrimmage and couldn't recover Friday night against St. Henry.
The game was far from over as the Redskins took a 7-0 lead just nine seconds in, but it might as well have been.
St. Henry added a pair of second period touchdowns to go up 19 at the half, then coasted to a 34-6 win at Barrenbrugge Athletic Park.
The Indians finish the season 5-5, their best record since they began playing a full Midwest Athletic Conference schedule.
An emotionally charged crowd had barely settled back into the home bleachers Friday after kick-off when Fort Recovery quarterback Greg Kahlig dropped back for a pass on the first play from scrimmage.
Instead of finding his own receiver, Kahlig's pass fell into the arms of the Redskins' Josh Schneider, who raced for a touchdown and a 7-0 lead at 11:51 of the first quarter.
St. Henry's Brent Prenger added TD runs of 5 and 20 yards at 8:29 and 5:59 of the second quarter.
The Indians, down 27-0 heading into the fourth, got onto the board on a 5-yard TD run from running back Matt Braun. Braun was the lone bright spot offensively for Fort Friday, picking up 117 yards on 18 carries.
Fort Recovery's defense, which was on the field often Friday, gave up 247 yards rushing to St. Henry, led by Prenger's 124 yards on 24 carries.
St. Henry had 314 yards in total offense to Fort's 172 yards.
Turnovers were a big part of the story, as the Indians lost two fumbles in addition to three interceptions by Kahlig.[[In-content Ad]]
