Start date is set for project
Dunkirk City Council
DUNKIRK — A pre-construction meeting on a $3.3 million upgrade to this city’s wastewater treatment plant went well and a tentative start date of Dec. 15 has been set for the project, Jesse Bivens told other members of the Dunkirk City Council Monday.
Mayor Dan Watson said construction should be well underway in January.
“Hopefullly, it will be a mild winter,” said Watson.
MK Betts Engineering and Contracting, Anderson, will be doing the work.
Council members unanimously agreed to amendments in the city’s contract with Fleis and Vandenbrink Engineering Inc. to reflect additional design work done by the Fort Wayne firm on the treatment plant project.
David Harvey of Fleis and Vandenbrink said some of the additional work was done at the request of the Indiana Department of Environmental Management.
The cost of the additional engineering work is $27,500, which is included in the total $3,331,700 price tag. The upgrades are being funded by a bond issue that will be paid off by a 15 percent increase in sewer rates.
In other business, the council:
•Approved sale of land at Indiana and North streets to Chris Morey, the sole bidder, for $500.
•Approved the rental of water pressure testing equipment by the fire department for one week at a cost of $595.
•Noted that two more vacant properties slated for demolition have been found to be free of asbestos and are ready to be torn down.
•Authorized water superintendent Dace Mumbower to get an estimate on repairs to the garage door opening system at the water treatment plant.
•Approved the quarterly transfer of economic development income tax (EDIT) funds to the Dunkirk Industrial Development Corporation.[[In-content Ad]]
