FRHS Softball
FORT RECOVERY - Less than two weeks into the season, the Fort Recovery High School softball team is already two-thirds of the way to its win total from last season.
The Indians quickly erased an early deficit Friday and cruised to an 8-2 victory over the visiting Franklin Monroe Jets, extending their record to 6-2. The Tribe won just nine games in 2009.
Carly Staugler set the pace for the Indians, who gave up two runs in the top of the first inning before taking the lead for good with four in the bottom. The senior second baseman went 3-for-4 with a double and a pair of RBIs.
Janelle Schwieterman also drove in two runs and scored once as she went 2-for-3, and Shelby Brunswick had two runs, an RBI and a stolen base. Olivia Thien scored twice, and Kendra Brunswick had a run and an RBI.
Andi Sutter settled down after the opening frame and struck out eight en route to the victory. She gave up two runs - one earned - on five hits and a walk.
