Stein posts trio of wins for Yellow Jackets (04/12/08)

Collegiate Check-up

Holly Stein scored nearly a quarter of her team's points all by herself.

The 2007 Fort Recovery High School graduate won each of her three events April 5, helping the Defiance College women's track team to a runner-up finish at the six-team Manchester Invitational.

Stein dominated the throwing events, and had an especially impressive effort in the discus. She won that event with a toss of 38.77 meters (127 feet, 2½ inches), beating the rest of the 13-woman field by more than 4.5 meters.

The freshman also won the javelin by more than six meters at 26.75 meters (87 feet, 9 inches) over teammate Rachel Flad. She sent the shot 11.84 meters (38 feet, 10¼ inches) to earn the victory in that event.

Jill Roughia

Jay County - 2005

Also competed in the Manchester Invitational, finishing second in both of her events for the Huntington University women's track team.

Roughia turned in a time of 12-minutes, 49.95 seconds in the 3,000-meter steeplechase to earn the runner-up spot. She was also second in the 5,000 run in 21:11.42.

Heath Williams

Jay County - 2004

Notched hits in each of the last three games for the Manchester College baseball team.

Williams turned in his best effort April 5 in game one of a double-header against Franklin College with a single, a run and an RBI in an 8-7 loss. He also had a hit and a run in the second half of the double-header, and singled April 4 against Franklin.

Josh Atkinson

Jay County - 2006

Tossed an inning of relief for the Manchester College baseball team April 4 in an 11-2 loss to Franklin.

Atkinson allowed on run on a walk and a hit in his fifth appearance of the season.

Joseph Vormohr

Jay County - 2006

Picked up a point for the Hanover College men's track team April 5 in the Anderson University Outdoor Invitational.

Vormohr posted his best effort in the discus, placing fifth with a distance of 125 feet, 1 inch. He was also ninth in the shot put at 40 feet, 8¼ inches, and placed 10th in the hammer throw with a toss of 119 feet, 11 inches.

Josh Shatto

Jay County - 2006

Took the loss for the Ancilla College baseball team Monday, thanks mostly to porous defense behind him.

Shatto went the distance, allowing all eight runs in an 8-0 loss to Muskegon Community College, but seven of those runs were unearned thanks to six errors.

Alyssa Johnson

Jay County - 2006

Finished in the middle of the pack in her event for the Taylor University women's track team at the DePauw Outdoor Invitational.

Johnson finished in sixth place in the 1,500-meter run, posting a time of 4-minutes, 53.98 seconds.[[In-content Ad]]
