Stein Roessner head to regional (05/23/05)

FRHS track

MINSTER, Ohio — Holly Stein and Vicki Roessner are headed back to Piqua.

The sophomores advanced to regional track action for the second straight season by finishing in the top four at the final day of the Minster district meet Saturday. They will compete at the Piqua regional Wednesday beginning at 4 p.m.

Stein, who narrowly missed making it through to the next round by finishing fifth in the discus Thursday, advanced in the shot put for the second straight season. She moved up one spot from last season, finishing as the district runner-up behind Crestview’s Shea Dietrich at 35 feet, three inches.

She was nearly five feet behind Dietrich, and nearly three feet ahead of third-place finisher Shanetta Bagley of Lafayette Allen East.

Stein just missed a state berth in the shot put last season when she finished fifth at Piqua. The top four regional competitors advance to the state meet.

Roessner also earned a repeat regional trip by finishing fourth in the 300-meter hurdles for the second straight season. She ran her best time of the season — 49.46 seconds — to place just seven hundredths behind third-place finisher Jessica Akerman of Delphos Jefferson.

She finished seventh in the 300 hurdles at the regional meet last season.

Roessner also finished just one spot away from making it to the regional in the 100 hurdles. She was fifth in the race behind Jodi Leininger of Delphos St. Johns in 17.74.

Stein and Roessner combined to score 21 of the Tribe girls team’s 22 points as it finished 10th in the 16-team field at Minster. The host Wildcats won with 124 points, and Delphos St. John’s was second with 82.

Sam Bihn, a freshman, scored the only other point for the Indians. She was eighth in the 1,600 run in 13-minutes, 51.42 seconds.

Fort Recovery’s boys teams did not have anyone finish in the top eight and was one of two teams to go scoreless. New Bremen took first with 107 points, and Minster was second with 88.

Mitch Fullenkamp had the top effort for the Indian boys as he placed 10th in the 3,200 run, finishing in 11-minutes, 24.61 seconds.[[In-content Ad]]
