MINSTER, Ohio — Holly Stein already had the school record in one of her events. So Tuesday she grabbed the school record in the other.
Stein won the Midwest Athletic Conference shot put title by nearly four feet with a school record throw at the first day of the league meet at Minster.
Rachel Tobe also matched a school record for the Indian girls, who were eighth out of 10 teams after the opening day with 16 points. The Versailles Tigers and host Wildcats were tied for first with 44 points.
On the boys side, Fort Recovery was last among the 10 teams with nine points. Minster topped the field with 47.5, and Versailles was second with 38.5.
The MAC Championships will conclude Friday with competition beginning at 6 p.m.
Stein, a junior, clobbered the rest of the field in the shot put, winning easily at 38 feet, 11/2 inches. Freshman Christine Borchers of Versailles was second at 34 feet, 21/2 inches.
She broke a school record which stood for 21 years, knocking Teresa Link out of the record book. Link set the previous mark of 37 feet, 71/2 inches in 1985.
Stein also finished 10th in the discus at 98 feet, nine inches. She holds the school record in that event as well, having tossed 108 feet last season.
Tobe was 10th in the pole vault, but matched the school record Julie Link set in 2004. She cleared the bar at seven feet.
Matt Vagedes, Fort Recovery’s record holder in the boys pole vault, finished third in the event at 11 feet, six inches.
The Indian team of Tiff Gaerke, Vicki Roessner, Tina Roessner and Mindy Vogel ran a season-best time of 10-minutes, 4.61 seconds in the 4x800 relay to place sixth.
Vicki Roessner qualified for Friday’s finals in both of her individual events.
After winning the Mercer County title in the 300 hurdles last week, she was second in the MAC preliminaries in 50.77 seconds. She was the No. 8 qualifier in the 100 hurdles in 18.13.
Fort Recovery also qualified seventh in the boys 4x400 relay in 3:42.61, and eighth in the girls 4x400 relay (4:25.70) and girls 4x100 relay (58.65).[[In-content Ad]]
