Stein wins pair at New Bremen (04/19/06)

NEW BREMEN, Ohio — Fort Recovery’s girls track team picked up five victories Tuesday, finishing third at a four-team meet at New Bremen.

The Indians’ victory total was just one behind the host Cardinals, who won with 84 points. St. Henry (74 points) used its depth to get past Fort Recovery (59), and New Knoxville was a distant fourth (35).

Matt Vagedes picked up the lone victory for the Fort Recovery boys, who were fourth with 17 points. New Bremen won with 121 followed by St. Henry (78) and New Knoxville (38).

Junior Holly Stein earned two of the victories for the Tribe girls as she dominated the throwing events again. She led a one-two finish with teammate Anne Koesters, winning by more than 15 feet in the discus at 105 feet, 10 inches. She was first in the shot put by nearly four feet with a toss of 36 feet, 33/4 inches.

Junior Tiff Gaerke gave the Indians a third field-event win, clearing the bar at four feet, 10 inches in the high jump.

The Roessner sisters accounted for the other two victories.

Vicki Roessner, also a junior, edged Sara Sharp of New Bremen by 15 hundredths of a second in the 300-meter hurdles in 51.59 seconds. She was second to Sharp in the 100 hurdles by 37 hundredths.

Freshman Tina Roessner led another one-two finish for Fort Recovery in the 3,200 run. She was first in 13 minutes even, and teammate Sam Bihn was second in 13-minutes, 46.60 seconds.

Vagedes gave the boys team its only win in the pole vault. He cleared the bar at 11 feet even.[[In-content Ad]]
