Stein wins pair for Jackets (03/29/08)

Holly Stein made the most of her team's first home meet of the season.
The 2007 Fort Recovery High School graduate won both of her events March 21 for the Defiance College women's track team as it hosted the Dick Small Inviational.
Stein, a state medalist in the discus during her senior season with the Indians, took first place in the event in the outdoor opener. She tossed the discus 119 feet, 7 inches, more than a foot further than runner-up Katie Spender of Albion.
The freshman also won the shot put, edging a pair of competitors by just 2 inches. Her winning distance was 34 feet, 1½ inches to put her just ahead of teammate Amanda Tooley and Bluffton's Karyn Davis.
The Yellow Jackets finished second out of six teams.
Joseph Vormohr
Jay County - 2006
Placed among the top four in all three of his events for Hanover College March 15 at the Berea College Invitational.
Vormohr sat in the middle of a run of three Panthers in second, third and fourth places in the shot put behind Luke Keller and head of Seth Miller. He took third over Miller by way of a tiebreaker with a distance of 41 feet, 11½ inches.
The sophomore also took third in the hammer throw at 119 feet, 9 inches. He added a fourth-place effort by tossing the discus 121 feet, 3 inches.
Heath Williams
Jay County - 2004
Racked up six hits March 22 to help lead the Manchester College baseball team to a double-header sweep of Hanover.
Williams went wild from his leadoff spot in the order in the second game of the double-header, going 4-for-5 with a double. He also scored twice, drove in a run and stole a base.
In the opening game against Hanover, Williams went 2-for-4 with a double in a 2-1 victory. He was 0-for-5 March 21 against Hanover, but drove in a run.
Alyssa Johnson
Jay County - 2006
Scored a top-five finish for the Taylor University women's track team March 22 at the Rhodes open meet.
Johnson placed fourth out of 49 competitors in the 1,500-meter run. She posted a time of 4-minutes, 55.9 seconds, less than one second behind Julie Little of Mississippi.

Each competed in the 5,000-meter run as the Engineers hosted the Rose-Hulman Early Bird.
Ian Thomas paced RHIT in the event by finishing fourth in 15-minutes, 43.35 seconds. His twin brother, Mitchell, was just two places back in sixth at 15:55.57.
Jill Roughia
Jay County - 2005
Finished in the middle of the pack for the Huntington University women's track team at the March 22 Emory Invitational.
Roughia placed 16th out of 32 athletes in the 1,500-meter run, posting a time of 5:18.27. The Foresters finished 15th in the 18-team field.
Tyler Sprunger
South Adams - 2004
Recorded the final out of the game March 22 in a 12-6 loss to Mount St. Joseph.
Sprunger pitched to just two batters, walking one before getting the last out on a line drive. He also allowed one run one hit and one walk while striking out one Tuesday in one inning of work as Bluffton lost 8-5 to Ohio Northern.[[In-content Ad]]
