Strangers feel love from community (6/2/03)

Editor's mailbag

By To the editor:-

As are so many, we too are grieving the loss of our sister Marianne Moser and her husband Greg. As we struggle to make sense of a such a tragedy, we take great peace and comfort knowing they left this world better than they found it.

Despite our profound sadness as we left Portland, we were overwhelmed by a strong sense of hope. What a wonderful legacy Greg and Marianne left with your community; more than the family they left behind that we love and are so very proud of, more than a thriving business and place of employment, loyal employees and wonderful friends. As if that isn’t enough for any one to be proud of, we were surrounded by stories of the values that both Marianne and Greg embodied in your community; stories of great love, generosity, kindness, loyalty, heart and vision.

While in the community of Portland, we felt all of these — from total strangers. We felt the heart of the city of Portland with each word of comfort, hugs from people we had never met, and an outpouring of love for Marianne and Greg, their children and grandchildren.

We have been reading the many articles that have been written since the accident, including some speculating about the future of Portland and the void Marianne and Greg left behind.

From an outsider’s perspective, Portland has everything to hope for. We saw and felt their legacy alive and thriving in Portland, and it was apparent in every soul they touched.
