Students did JCHS proud (04/06/07)
Letter to the Editor
To the editor:
I would like to take the opportunity to tell the community how proud I am of our students. Sheila Takats and I traveled to Italy with 39 other individuals - most of them students at Jay County High School.
The students were respectful to others and well-mannered. Many times during our trip, our tour guide would receive compliments of how well the students behaved in the hotels, at restaurants, and in our guided tours around places like Florence, Venice and Pompeii.
Our days would begin between 6 and 6:30 a.m., and go until sometimes 9:30 to 11 p.m. Most of us were tired, but rarely did I hear a complaint.
If there was one, it was usually about the aching feet and our 30-minute post-prandial walks (often thought of as forced marches).
Remember, everyone was walking about four to 10 miles a day and standing on his or her feet all day. However, the students knew that it was their tour and wanted to get the most out of it.
To sum it all up, in the words of our bus driver, Dominico: "You are good people."
Once again, I want to thank the students and adults on the trip for one of the best trips I have taken overseas.
