Students say thanks to mayor (08/09/2008)
Letters to the Editor
To the editor:
I would like to send out a huge thank you to Mayor Bruce Hosier and staff member Carla Horn. In preparing to travel and study abroad, my sister and I were given a big scare when our passports came back in the mail without visas inside.
After trying unsuccessfully for several days to contact the appropriate consulate, we called the mayor's office and met with him within a couple of hours. He immediately made phone calls to help us and reassured us that although we had just less than two weeks before our flight, everything would be taken care of. A couple of days later, our passports were returned with visas. We received another call from Mayor Hosier, following up on the situation.
This could have been a nightmare. Thanks to the help we received from the mayor, Mrs. Horn and their subsequent calls to Congressman Pence's office, it was quickly and painlessly resolved.
It is easy to feel insignificant as a common citizen, but my sister and I now have a renewed confidence in our government representatives and their attention to even small town residents.
Thanks again.
