Support Scott

Editor's Mailbag

By To the editor:-

In the battle for control of the United States Senate conventional wisdom says that Indiana is not a battleground state. After all, Senator Evan Bayh won by a large margin and has a $6.5 million war chest.

Conventional wisdom overlooks two very important facts. In 1998, as a do-nothing Governor, Bayh had no record on national issues and, in a conservative state, his Republican opponent was an anti-gun liberal.

Now Bayh has told us that “the values that must guide us are ... the values that President Clinton has worked to restore.” In the Senate he voted with Clinton 94 percent of the time. In a recent vote he proved that he is as solidly anti-gun as Clinton and Kerry. And he stands shoulder to shoulder with Kennedy, Daschle, and Schumer in their filibuster to keep judges on the Appellate and Supreme Courts who support rights to Abortion, Sodomy, Freedom From Religion, and the 9th Circuit decision that only active members of the National Guard are protected by the Second Amendment.

Senate candidate Marvin Scott is an intelligent and articulate professor at Butler University and a long time NRA member. As an African-American he understands the needs of Indiana's minorities. As a solid conservative he will work with President Bush to fight for “Real Hoosier Values.”

Please vote for Marvin Scott in the May 3 Indiana Republican Primary.
