Support the local arts (12/9/04)

Editor's Mailbag

By To the editor:-

At the band and choir concert today (Sunday) at Jay County High School I was so impressed with the number of people who gave up their quiet Sunday afternoon to support the kids and their community. There were so many people there. Hooray for our small town.

May I encourage you to be more involved with all the arts programs right here in your own backyard? Sure, you can go to Muncie, Fort Wayne or Indy, but if you’ve never been in our lovely Arts Place at 131 E. Walnut St., may I suggest you come over and visit? If you’ve never seen a play or a musical or a concert, please don’t be shy. Arts Place is for everyone to enjoy. There are lessons and plays, shows and concerts, art classes and summer programs.

There are other shows going on now and coming up in January. For one more weekend you can see “Merry Christmas, George Bailey,” at the courthouse auditorium. Shows are this Friday and Saturday at 7:30 p.m. And in January, be sure to see “Belles” directed by Don Enyart and playing at Arts Place.

After seeing such a huge crowd today at the high school I know you guys are out there, ready to be entertained. Please don’t be a stranger to the arts. Participate in Civic Theatre, Performance Company and Crying Baby Productions. Take lessons and see shows and concerts at Arts Place. You’ll grow and build friendships and memories that will be lifelong. At the very least, someone on stage or in a class will make you smile. And in our world today, sometimes a smile is enough.

Merry Christmas

Linda Priest Rodden

Bryant — instructor, Arts Place; director and producer, Crying Baby Productions
