Support urged for Davis (10/19/04)

Editor's Mailbag

By To the editor:-

I am writing this letter in regard to the upcoming election. I want to let people who may not know Bill and Mary Davis personally what kind of people I have found them to be. I knew who they were before, but from a distance.

As I have worked alongside them since early summer in his race to be the next representative of the 33rd District, I have observed them in all kinds of situations. I have seen them hot, tired and thirsty from their walking and knocking on the more than 5,000 doors so far in the district.

I have seen them with their daughters and eight grandchildren walking in every parade in the district. I have seen volunteers too numerous to acknowledge show up to help Bill and Mary. They were willing to do whatever was needed. Some had never worked in a campaign before.

From where does this kind of dedication come? For me, it was that they never asked anyone to do anything that they were not leading the way. Another admirable characteristic I have observed is in the area of organization. They always knew where they wanted the campaign to go and how best to use their volunteers.

I use the word “they” because Bill would be the first to tell you that Mary is indispensable in the campaign. She is quiet, but is always quietly working.

If I knew nothing else about Bill I would find him a worthy candidate, but there is much more. Bill is a successful businessman in our community who is looked up to as a man of integrity. He is a family man, one who shares the values of Middle America. Bill is pro-life, believing that all life is precious. His stand on marriage is that it should be between a man and a woman. Because these are my values also, I have been honored to walk in parades, knock on doors, stuff envelopes and clean headquarters.

It is time for a change. I hope you will consider voting for Bill for state representative of the 33rd District. Bill and Mary will certainly appreciate your vote, and he will make a conscientious and dedicated representative.

Thank you,

Linda Peters
