Swartz enters race for school board position (08/25/06)

A challenger and an incumbent joined the race for a seat on the Jay School Board in the final 24 hours before the deadline to file at noon today.

On the ballot Nov. 7 for the District 3 school board seat, which represents Penn, Jefferson and Greene Townships, will be challenger Emily Swartz and incumbent Jay E. Halstead.

Halstead, a resident of 920 South Joan Drive, Portland, filed a petition with the Jay County Clerk's office on Thursday, while Swartz, who lives at 5786 South 600 West, Redkey, filed this morning.

Also filing paperwork to run for re-election Thursday was Bryan Alexander, 303 E Arch St.

Alexander represents District 1, which is within the city of Portland.

There will be a three-way race on the ballot for the board's District 5 seat, which includes Wayne Township outside the city limits of Portland, along with Bearcreek and Jackson townships.

Running for that seat are Wayne Township residents Ronald Laux, Mike Foreman and Larry Paxson.

Alexander and incumbent Michael Shannon (District 2, city of Dunkirk) are currently unopposed.[[In-content Ad]]
