Take advantage of early voting
Editorial
Some changes take a little while to get used to.
While most of us are focused on voting in municipal elections on Nov. 8, some folks are already voting.
Changes in Indiana’s early voting laws make it possible for Hoosiers to stop by the Jay County Courthouse and cast their ballots at their convenience. More than 150 people have already done so, and more will follow in the week ahead.
Early voting isn’t for everybody.
Many of us like to wait until the last possible minute to study the ballot and make our choices.
And in any election season it’s possible for last minute developments to sway a voter’s mind.
But allowing early voting has accomplished two things: It has created an option for folks with busy schedules who want to make sure their vote is counted, and it has eliminated the I’m-too-busy excuse for those inclined to sit on the sidelines during the electoral process.
Voting should be convenient as well as meaningful, and the early voting process guarantees that to be the case.
So while it’s typical for this newspaper to run an editorial on the eve of the election urging you to do your civic duty, this year we’re taking our cue from the early voters.
If you’re already planning to vote on election day, do so thoughtfully.
If you’re concerned that you might be busy that day or if you’re inclined to be forgetful, stop by the courthouse this week and make an equally thoughtful decision early. — J.R.[[In-content Ad]]
