Tax bills will be delayed (05/01/08)
Several complications mean that the spring installment of property tax bills in Jay County will not be collected by the normal May 10 deadline.
Jay County Treasurer Robin Alberson said Wednesday that she is hoping to have bills printed and sent out by "late June." With the normal 15-day window to pay, that would make bills due by mid-July.
Alberson said if issues arise, bills and payments could "be later than that."
She said that property owners wishing to make payments in advance of receipt of their bills, they may do so based on 2007 taxes.
"If they just pay the spring installment (in advance of the bill), we'll credit to the fall and then bill out the difference," Alberson said. "If they overpay (for the year), we'll pay it back to them."
